Jordan Wiebe is a multidisciplinary artist, working primarily in painting and music, currently based in Oakland. Raised in a Mennonite community in California’s Central Valley, Jordan's playful approach is amplified through informal style and an immediacy that holds the tension between self and systems, the individual and collective. With a background in design and photography, Jordan employs a range of mediums, including acrylic, found objects and typography.
My work and process centers on collapsing images and materials into new expressions, relationships and connections, relying on chance and looseness of stroke and value. Exploring and employing deconstructive methods within political, personal, religious norms is foundational for me to rendering work that speaks with integrity. Subversion, mischief and playfulness are persistent undercurrents thematically and I’m specifically interested in building planes of openness, energy and chaos, exploring inner world contradictions and tensions.
